Hello and thanks for your interest in Safe Aquatics!
This summer we have 2 group sessions in Merced/Atwater. Each session is 9 classes long, on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Session 1 : June 9, 11, 16, 18, 23, 25, 30, July 2, 7

Session 2 : July 14, 16, 21, 23, 28, 30, August 4, 6, 11

The following levels will have availability from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM:

Safety 1 – Safety 1 classes are for students who have never had lessons before. If your student has any fear or trauma, this is the class for them. We will work on all the safety skills and techniques with an emphasis on comfort in the water.

Safety 2 – This class is great for returning students that are comfortable with a faster paced class. Your student should be comfortable going under the water, jumping in, and laying on their back with assistance. Safety 2 classes will refresh all safety skills with an emphasis on independence and basic technique. (Children who have no prior experience but are 8 years old or older tend to fit well in this level unless they are fearful.)

Advanced
– This level is for students who have a bit more experience in the water than Safety 2. It is ideal for students who have independence in the water and have started to learn stroke technique. The focus here will be on teaching good body position and building strength so swimmers can develop more advanced stroke techniques. Advanced students will also work on more challenging safety skills like treading water in the deep end.

Freestyle – Once students that have learned body position and independence will begin to refine their freestyle technique. Students will learn drills to improve efficiency, strength and endurance. We teach the importance of kick in driving form, how to glide with the arms, and proper side-breathing. Here is where swimming goes from choppy and splashy to smooth and controlled.

Early competitive – In this class we continue to build strength and power in freestyle, while also learning backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. Students work on important skills like dives, turns, and streamlines. If a swimmer is interested in joining swim team or a summer league program, this class ensures that they will understand all the strokes and concepts that are required for swim team workouts. This is also a great class for someone who’s already on swim team, but looking for a little help outside practice. Many teams focus on lots and lots of yards. This is good for endurance, but come to us to help your swimmers focus in on the details that bring stroke mechanics together so they can get the most out of their workouts.

Parent and Me classes (ages: 4 months to 24 months)

These classes are designed to teach parents as much as the kids! We go over things like wall awareness, how to hold onto the wall and climb out if they are not near the steps. We teach submersion and how to properly take baby under the water, proper progression of back floats and how to hold baby while floating, pass backs under the water, and how to encourage a horizontal body position.

Group classes have a max size of 4 and are 30 minutes long.
